This region of Murcia enjoys a very healthy climate, mild in the winter and an average of 320 days per year of sunshine. It is one of the most popular areas in Spain for the exportation of fruit and vegetables and well known for its variety of fresh fish and seafood which is served in many of the local restaurants and tapas bars. Known also for the numerous golf courses in the area, it has become attractive to golfers especially for the winter sun.
The area known as the Mar Menor is a large saltwater lagoon which is separated from the Mediterranean sea by a strip of land [a Peninsula] called La Manga. This lagoon is very popular with families due to the lovely sandy beaches on both sides and warm, shallow waters making it very safe for children. Combined with impressive marinas offering boat trips across the Mar Menor or out to the Mediterranean sea, a great selection of bars, cafes and restaurants on both sides it has a certain special feeling that makes people want to return year after year to enjoy.
